A traditional folk music and dance form from Seville and surrounding Andalusian region, derived from the older Castilian seguidilla. The genre features relatively simple musical patterns but rich lyrics covering themes of country life, religious devotion, love, and local traditions. It became influenced by flamenco during the 19th century while maintaining its distinct regional character.
