Oi! is a subgenre of punk rock that emerged from the UK's working-class communities, particularly London's East End, in the late 1970s. It aimed to unite punks, skinheads, and disaffected working-class youth with straightforward, anthemic songs about street life and working-class struggles. The movement was a reaction against the perceived pretentiousness of art school punk bands.
