Melodic Death Metal

A subgenre of death metal that combines highly melodic guitar riffs and solos with the aggressive vocals and heavy distortion of traditional death metal. Pioneered by English band Carcass, it was further developed by Swedish bands in the mid-1990s, creating the influential "Gothenburg sound."
