A style of traditional Chinese instrumental music from Guangzhou and the Pearl River Delta, known for its lively pace and cheerful character compared to music from other Chinese provinces. The music combines traditional Cantonese opera melodies with new compositions from the 1920s onward, sometimes incorporating Western instruments and jazz influences. Despite its name, it represents only one of many musical traditions from Guangdong province.
