A Chinese internet microgenre and aesthetic built on nostalgia for millennium-era China: slowed and reverb-soaked fragments of 2000s Mandopop, childrens TV themes and ringtone melodies laid over grainy footage of blue-curtained classrooms, stairwells and internet cafes. Less surreal than Western dreamcore and more homesick, it treats the years around 2005 as a dream the listener once lived.
