Argentine Folk Music

On air on Tasty TV — always on, pick a channel, not a video.

The rural and provincial music of Argentina, distinct from the urban tango: chacarera, zamba and baguala from the north-west, the milonga of the pampas, and the bombo legüero, guitar and charango that carry them. The 1960s folklore boom made it a national art music.

History

Criollo dances of the colonial provinces were collected and dignified in the 1940s and 1950s, and Atahualpa Yupanqui, Mercedes Sosa and the Nuevo Cancionero movement turned them into the voice of a generation.
